Quartz Infrared, Inc.

Manufacturers of Quartz Infrared Electric Heating Elements

Technical Specifications

Quartz Electric Heating Elements provide medium-wave infrared energy with a fast heat up and cool down time. With element temperatures ranging from 1000 °F (537°C)  up to 2000°F (1093°C)  the elements produce infrared energy in the 2 to 3.5 micron range. Lower operating temperatures produce longer wave lengths. Quartz Infrared offers both clear and satin (translucent) quartz. Clear quartz radiates about 95% of the infrared energy directly, whereas satin quartz absorbs about 35% of the energy and radiates it at a longer wavelength.

Depending on the design, our elements can reach full output in as little as 30 seconds and typically cool down to 50 percent output in under 15 seconds. The quartz element is ideal for applications where process stoppages are anticipated or a quick heat up or cool down is necessary. The elements can be turned off between production runs to save energy, and/or can have their output controlled with inexpensive dials for precise control.

For more advanced information see 'Industrial Applications of Electric Infrared Heating' compliments of 'Advanced ENERGY'.

Performance Capabilities
  • Standard watt densities up to 80 Watts per inch of heated length (32W/cm), and up to 100 Watts per inch by request*
  • Element temperatures up to 2000°F (1093°C)

Features and Benefits
  • Fast delivery (in as little as 2 days*) on all standard replacement elements means less downtime, or JIT delivery.
Typical lead time is days, not weeks.
  • Termination styles are available for virtually every application on the market, as well as custom terminations.*
  • Ceramic end caps can be bonded to the quartz tubing ends, to provide a rigid support for terminations, or,
    un-bonded is also available.
  • Minimal visible light is created due to low emission in the visible spectrum.
No need to shade an operator's eyes.
  • No process contamination occurs with this clean heat  source.
They can be used in virtually any environment (except vacuums and volatile fumes).
  • Direct Radiation means little energy is wasted heating the surrounding area.
Your target material absorbs the energy directly.
  • Vertical models are available to provide additional flexibility in the design of your equipment.
The element can be positioned to best reach it's target.

Element Orientation

The first step in designing or purchasing a Quartz element is determining if it is mounted in a horizontal or vertical position. Typically, Quartz elements are mounted in a horizontal position. This is the simplest design. However, some applications require the element to be in a vertical position. The only difference that makes in the design of the element is that the element coil cannot be stretched; it must be tightly wound such that it can support itself in a vertical position. This requires additional processing on the coil to form an insulating coating on the wire so there is no electrical contact between the turns of the coil. Vertical or Close Wound coils are not a problem for us. We can make these in any length, but due to the more stringent physical specifications of the coils, some designs may not be possible. Note: A minimum purchase is required for these elements due to the extra processing required.

Reference Dimensions

Reference dimensions never include termination screws or wires. Please check your dimensions carefully when selecting replacement elements. All of our products will include a S-S, T-T or both reference length/s in the product description. For more details on a particular model type, see the Standard cap chart below.
